1. You were given your rule in the days, so rule justly,
And if you possessed the softness of glory and generosity,

2. And good fortune allied with you, even if restricted
To the prime of youth before reaching old age,

3. Indeed time flows according to its disposition,
Not according to your desire, without blame,

4. So whatever matter you intended or pointed to,
The world stood for it immediately.

5. Indeed great Constantinople, its ruler
Feared your sword’s edge with the pen,

6. And feared the striking of a flint whose matter is wondrous,
That hurls him in the violent sea with deafness,

7. And he intended to spare the blood of the Romans, relying
On the loyalty of a faithful one from you in covenants,

8. So the strength of determination of the hands of its protectors stopped,
Uprooting the best enemies completely.

9. And angels came to you with messengers from him,
Praising your justice in treaties with words.

10. He saw you with the heart, not with the eyes, in fear
Of the mighty awe of your kingdom upon him.

11. Good in reputation in the world, keeping to it,
As if his glory is musk in every mouth,

12. He walked to you gradually on the bank
Of the land of the great king of ambitions.

13. Presenting every necklace of his gift
Like a garden whose space is adorned by the rainwater.

14. It is his habit not to cease being mixed with their blood,
In the abundant sea of the Romans,

15. If not for the females and the heavy burdens carried
From the patriarchs out of glorification of the summits.

16. So he returned in peace from a war whose cavalry
Galloped on their legs dispensing with spurs,

17. And sailing ships which when the wind blew to them sail
Swiftly in the abundant sea colliding with death,

18. They rested from fat over tar wearing
Upon it attire of lights over darkness,

19. Showing you forearms whose sleeves make you see
The walk of scorpions in their bold colors,

20. Armored belted men of courage
Who do not complain of the pain of blows,

21. And I have not seen black lions who opened
Cities while still clouded in darkness before them.

22. You reached and found, so the lands of stars are for you
Levels of high worth and ambitions,

23. And the land of Venice sent its wondrous things
To their king, its possession in ancient times,

24. Say to the chiefs: frequent his court
If you slept from his light he did not sleep

25. If not for the generous acts of Yahya and the life in them
The soul of wealth would not return in one dead.

26. A king when he is generous, the rain is generous from his hand
So the place the drops fall from him grows blessings.

27. If he rouses the millstones of war, he attires it
At night, roaming with the horses in the dark,

28. You made us forget with hands from you we mention
The prosperity of Egypt and how he established the rule.

29. And you folded what the far spread
Of glories from it the tongues of nations narrate.

30. You guided one who strayed from glory and generosity
With what exceeds the extent of fire and knowledge.

31. You were distinguished with generosity and valor entrusted with it
Generosity and valor born in character.

32. If Zuhayr saw you in the height he would
Restrain his tongue in generous praise from senility.

33. So drink the sediment of vines which showed
Lips smiling to sip from it,

34. It has the radiance of lightning, how it chained it
In the cup, a wrist pouring roses in droplets,

35. And how it makes you hear in intoxication bursting it
The neighing of your white horse, responding to the deaf.
