1. O you who helps a guest distressed by us
With neither generosity to hope nor faith

2. He stayed with me for thirty years
I endured it with patience and humility

3. The home is just over ten miles away
Yet you come in twenty months and more

4. Unconcerned if the Hajj passes you by
While you fatten Ibn Harkeen’s calves

5. People speak of your generosity
Alas, not for the poor guest

6. You store and hoard all you own
Abu Suleiman, shards of Qarun

7. Like the son of Imran, forefathers preceded
Who repay good deeds with evil

8. Will you not be like Ismail, who had
Sound wisdom and deeds above reproof

9. Or like his wife in her affliction
Far from his mother of the two girdles
