1. My dreams flow as you flow on,
To where the distance is far and long.

١. تجرى و احلامى فى غيها تمضى
الى حيث البعيد البعيد

2. You are the glory of one who walks your path,
Drawn by yearning to what he desires.

٢. انت مجد سالك دربه
يدفعه الشوق الى ما يريد

3. While my imagination freely wanders,
Leading me now here, now there astray.

٣. و لى خيال سارح بالمنى
يسوقنى حينا و حينا يحيد

4. As though I and the universe in my grasp -
A wanderer, driven, dispersed in it.

٤. كأننى و الكون فى قبضتى
موزع فيه شريد طريد

5. You keep your promise, protecting it
Through time everlasting, never to fade.

٥. انت على العهد و قد صنته
على الزمان السرمدى الابيد

6. Has there e'er been a poet, whose love
Is renewed each day, sailing your banks,

٦. هل مر فى شطك شاعر
له غرام كل يوم جديد

7. Soaring to the peak in rapture,
Then bending as the wide plain stretches ahead?

٧. يسمو الى الذروة فى زهوها
و ينثنى و السهل رحب مديد

8. Would that I and the magic of dusk
Could rise to that unique beauty!

٨. يا ليتنى و السحر عالى الذرى
ارقى الى ذاك الجمال الفريد

9. And the flower bursts open at its peak
Between hard longing and stubborn union.

٩. و انشق الزهرة فى اوجها
بين هوى صعب و وصل عنيد

10. Whispers stir on her throne,
Rapture sweetens, the chant grows sweet.

١٠. و ترتع النجوى على عرشها
و ينتشى الوجد و يحلو النشيد

11. Or would that I might long for a stream
Where contentment, though little, suffices.

١١. او ليتنى اهوى الى جدول
حيث الرضا بعض كفاف زهيد

12. I sip the drop, but slake no thirst,
While many fish, yet crave no more.

١٢. ارتشف القطرة لا ارتوى
و رب صاد لا يروم المزيد

13. I ask about his state, what is his way,
Shunning wealth, choosing this barren place?

١٣. اساله عن شأنه ما له
عاف الربا و اختار ذاك الصعيد

14. Ah, the murmur of the breeze around him,
One kiss giving life, another death.

١٤. اه على همس الجوى حوله
و قبلة تحيا و اخرى تبيد

15. Arm pillowed on arm, waist clasped to waist,
Cheek to cheek, and forehead to forehead.

١٥. و ساعد يثوى على ساعد
و التف خصران و جيد وجيد

16. What thoughts, O Nile, have you awakened,
If your echo could repeat them anew?

١٦. خواطر يا نيل ايقظتها
ماذا على رجع الصدى لو يعيد

17. What of the poet, if rhyme bore him on,
And the ode responded to his call?

١٧. ماذا على الشاعر لوجنحت
به القوافى و استجاب القصيد

18. Tomorrow I will tell you from my tale,
Of a lightning flash, a new horizon.

١٨. غدا سأروى لك من قصتى
عن بارق لاح و افق جديد
