1. How can gratitude reach what is hoped for
He who protected religion and gave life to souls

2. So Allah opened for him the conquest that
Encompassed the world, so leave Andalusia

And good tidings shone so weddings were held

And lips cracked in agony and sorrow

Heroes, sound, straight-waisted

Bearing helpers of a noble religion

25. An arena in which they prevailed and souls flourished
Lions in war under whom raids cowered

26. When they made lawful nested synagogues
Standing fast before the horrors in the canal’s shade

O eyes what did you see

Or horses stampeding in it

And dawn if taking breath

60. Lands cleansed of nations that were impure

61. O Commander of the Faithful sought for aid
His compassion if affliction or harshness befell

62. O descendent of the noble Caliphs
Justice manifest when obscured
