1. Oh, do not blame me, enough with blame
What good in blaming me or you the same

2. Don't you know, of blame the benefit's small
My blaming brother, does nothing at all

3. So rider, if you're going to Narjan way
Convey my sorrow that we can't meet today

4. Abu Karib and Ahyam's tribe entire
And Qais at the highlands of Yemen's spire

5. May God requite my people with disdain
Those straightforward and the covert remain

6. Had I wished, a spear could have saved my soul
With horses trailing, an unbroken shoal

7. But I defend your father's bond of grace
As spears snatched the lawyers in their race

8. An old Abshami woman laughs at me
As though she'd never seen a Yemeni

9. The she-wolf knows I'm a lion set free
Enemy to her, and she to me

10. Though they've tied my tongue, in rage I state
O tribe of Taim, release my tongue's weight!

11. O Taim you've won, so be compassionate
Your brother wasn't of the submissive rate

12. If you kill me, a master dies in me
If you free me, you battle my money

13. When the horses neigh, sniffing the air
I announce with pride, pawing the bare

14. So free me, O Aas, from these ropes and ties
I'm patient with whatever fate implies

15. Can it be, O Allah's servants, I can't hear
The shepherd's songs from afar appearing?

16. I was the slaughterer of meat full-grown
Preparing horses, roaming on my own

17. Slaughtering my mare for drink honorable
Splitting the saddle with my arms, able

18. Battling locusts in numbers progressed
I summoned them, to the hills they digressed

19. As if I never rode a horse before
Or said to my steed, pace yourself more

20. As if I never Yemen's leather girt
Or said to the free, make the fire's light hurt
