1. From the highest realm of the eternal world
I greet you with salutations and praise

2. I penetrated the veils of the unseen until I reached you
To reward you for some of your kindness towards me

3. I crossed the boundaries of where in willful ambition
In it, distance vanishes from distance

4. As if infinite space is walking
On a sphere that has no limit but my limit

5. When I raced walking in its wastelands
What was before me resembled what was after me

6. Until I surpassed the stars gravitational pull
To them my affection, though they weren't my intent

7. They implore me - and the light then - in their language
To recite my poetry to them, befriend them

8. Had it not been for Egypt and my passionate love
And Baghdad, I wouldn't have been stingy with what I have

9. Meanings in which youth spent its most precious time
And the greatest resolves ran wild in me

10. And I dictated to fate the pride of my poems
Which generations sang in the plains and highlands

11. I crossed the boundaries of where until I reached you
So who put up what was between us like a dam?

12. Yes, a thousand years stood between me and you
Had I not preceded or you followed after my time

13. I would have delighted in meeting you and you in seeing me
If only the hand of fate had voided it in the count

14. Come now time, make way for a poet
Who wants to pass and mountains cannot stop my advance

15. Did it deceive you that the earth drank my blood?
And the eyes of meteors witnessed my end?

16. Gently, I immortalized poetry itself
And nothing of it remains for dust but the beads

17. There it flows in generations, pure
To a son.. To a grandson.. From his father.. From his ancestors

18. It increases over days like wine in delight
If only the zealotry of wine would guide like it guides

19. I am the immortal flowing in my people's veins
And my people are not trivial or submissive
