1. I wish that an ugly woman should have a value
Among the slave girls when you assess her cost,
١. إِنّي أُجِلُّ ظَلوماً أَن يَكونَ لَها
بَينَ الجَواري إِذا قَوَّمتَها ثَمَنُ
2. And I have not seated a beauty in an elegant gathering
Except by the ugliness of an ugly one that spoils the beautiful.
٢. وَما قَرَنتُ بِها في مَجلَسٍ حَسَناً
إِلّا بِحُسنِ ظَلومٍ يَقبُحُ الحَسَنُ
3. Were all mankind to offer what they possess
For a single glance from the beauty of an ugly woman, they would not be cheated.
٣. وَلَو يَسوقُ جَميعُ الناسِ ما مَلَكوا
لِنَظرَةٍ مِن ظَلومِ الحُسنِ ما غُبِنوا
4. Were an ugly woman to appear with her face unveiled
In the dark to the people of the earth, they would be seduced.
٤. وَلَو تَبَدَّت ظَلومٌ وَهيَ مُسفِرةٌ
تَحتَ الظَلامِ لِأَهلِ الأَرضِ لِاَفتُتِنوا
