1. The two lovers spent the night in fear and worry,
So praise be to Allah, Lord of the protecting favor.

2. O you who gives water from his mouth and who drinks it
From the mouth of the one he hugs, I ransom you with a drink.

3. I gained nothing from the delights of this life,
Except a drink I took in the bayt with arched niches.

4. A drink for the night of success, if only it would return to us.
It set aflame the pith of my heart, what a burning!

5. My eyes surely cry over the night of success,
And my heart surely yearns for it with passion.

6. I don’t see you saying to people,
“Abu Al-Fadl experienced what no other experienced.”

7. O you whose tears flow down his cheeks,
And whose tender heart is lovesick.

8. O you whose passion is aroused for a maiden,
Who appears radiant at dawn with a glow.

9. I see that the vows of lovers do not last,
But our love and infatuation remain eternal.

10. And we don’t believe anyone who tells us,
Until he comes with words that are truthful.
