1. When we meet, we complain of what we conceal
In chastity and conversation here and there
١. إِذا اِلتَقَينا شَكَونا ما نُكاتِمُهُ
في عِفَّةٍ وَحَديثٍ مِن هُنا وَهُنا
2. If birds could hear our complaints, they would huddle around us
As they huddled around David when he was tried
٢. لَو تَسمَعُ الطَيرُ ما نَشكو عَكَفنَ بِنا
كَما عَكَفنَ بِداوُدَ الَّذي فُتِنا
3. So we still have things we talk about
That will become traditions for people after us
٣. فَما تَزالُ لَنا أَشياءُ نُحدِثُها
تَكونُ لِلناسِ فيما بَعدَنا سُنَنا
