1. I have endured the calamities of this life,
Yet nothing has passed over my head like love.
١. جَرَّبتُ مِن هَذهِ الدُنيا شَدائِدَها
ما مَرَّ مِثلُ الهَوى شَيءٌ عَلى راسي
2. The torment of Harut in this world and his friend,
Is more delightful than the love of some people for others.
٢. عَذابُ هاروتَ في الدُنيا وَصاحِبِهِ
أَلَذُّ مِن حُبِّ بَعضِ الناسِ لِلناسِ
3. For love there is a cup brimming with tremors,
So whoever has an eye for it will sense.
٣. لِلحُبِّ كَأسٌ مِنَ الرَوعاتِ مُترَعَةٌ
فَكُلُّ مَن كانَ ذا طَرفٍ بِها حاسِ
4. Whoever pledges love, his trade will not profit,
If who he loves casts him into despair.
٤. مَن بايَعَ الحُبَّ لَم تَربَح تِجارَتُهُ
إِذا رَماهُ الَّذي يَهواهُ بِالياسِ
