Matching and surpassing in its weaving

6. When she walks in her bracelets
She strides upon eggs or green glass

7. When I told her of a lion
Depicted in a ring, what an image!

8. My friend, listen to my dream
I saw near the light of lamps

9. As if success offered me on a horse
A wreath of basil, fragrant as dinars

10. Praise God! She has placed in my hand
Her affair, O excellent expression!

11. I await the fulfillment of my dream
Fate comes with advance and delay

12. Happy the eye that saw success when shutting
And the eye was satisfied with her altogether

13. Do not abandon me for what flaws are in me
I pity myself when abandoned

14. I see myself and brothers gathered
In an assembly on the heights of Karkh

15. I wept from rapture upon hearing her voice
As a love-sick brother weeps from a sweet reminder

16. The lover weeps in his drunkenness
When the flute and pipe respond in turn

17. O Success! were it not for you I'd know no rapture
I take refuge in girlfriends like statues

18. O Success! Your people blame me, so I said:
Return my heart and I'll leave you untroubled

19. God knows I wish you well
My effort is made though unrewarded

20. May God not remove anyone else when I led
Myself to you and sold you my agony

21. O people of Success! Is there no relief with you for me?
Woe is me! No comfort from the length of my torment

22. O people of Success! Inter me among your abodes
My soul is ransomed for those houses

23. They kept urging on a reluctant soul
Until despairing they said to it: “Go!”
