1. The desolate place emptied of its people and lightning storms,
While ambushes used to make me recoil,

2. Nor the matters of fate searching me out,
And from my tossing ship - boards cracking from the quick turns

3. As their sterns sway like eggs no filth touching them
My head’s times a reed-bed left neglected,

4. Unwoven by fakers or tricksters,
So if ruin befell it, it’s as if a wanton had spoiled my head,

5. Sliding off its cartilage worms...
After a brownish she-camel that had twins,

6. So I said when enterprise wearied, the milch-camels falling, the howdahs slipping:
“You, O Harith, are indeed the best guardian,

7. Most delusive in glory, with inheritance to come,
A sea if helpers seek him out,

8. You are the lion of the night-raid, the twister,
With an assault that hurls the fighting men at you

9. When the armed warrior is sluggish from wounds.”
God, the Mighty, the Inheritor, may know

10. That when disasters grow strong
I hope in you when an envied effort wearies me,

11. In the land of Kurman while you remain there,
So may God guide you to us, the Sender,

12. No beggar cursing you will get anything from you,
A host of youth and greybeards,

13. Your land no barrenness and no slyness,
Spacious plains, gentle, bloodstained,

14. The land wherein are rivulets streaming,
The sale of the elite horses goes on

15. For half-price until the wife-takers settle,
And the bonds of clientage clasp,

16. And a predator roams around among us,
A truth-teller or a cheating salesman.

17. And there bite me when the biting swords bite -
Two upright systems of debt while a third sits by.

18. Unless you pay my debt, my debt will persist
While I am exhausted, driven on without rest.

19. And sheer calamity has been revealed,
If immoralities spread among your tribe,

20. From complication of affairs having wretched issues -
You set it right until malignity departs.
