1. He knew not what was pure from what was foul,
O questioner about my brass wares,
١. لَمْ يَدْرِ ما الزاكِي مِنَ المُخاسِي
يا أَيُّهَا السائِلُ عَنْ نُحاسِي
2. Leave off from me ere they reach my shoe straps,
If you are reduced to poverty in your affairs,
٢. عَنِّي وَلَمّا يَبْلُغُوا أَشْطاسِي
إِنْ كُنْتَ مِن أَمْرِكَ في مِسْماسِ
3. Then stretch over your mother the smoothness of the file,
And you are made poor by your disease,
٣. فَاسْطُ عَلَى أمِّكَ سَطْوَ الماسِي
وَكُنْتَ مِنْ دائِكَ ذا إِفْلاسِ
4. Then rinse your mouth with the fruit of the gourd.
٤. فَاسْتَقِئاً بِثَمَرِ القَسْقاسِ
