1. Tell the one whose estrangement 
Has wearied my eyelids with disdain   
١. قُل لِمن أَوحَشَ بالهَج
 رِ جُفونِي من كَراهَا
2. And whose deception made my eyes  
Dream of finding solace in sleep 
٢. والّذِي أَوهَم عَيني
 أَنَّ في النَّومِ قَذَاهَا
3. O fickle one, how seldom you keep 
Promises though you made them again 
٣. يا مَلُولاً قَلَّما اِستُر
 عِي عُهوداً فَرعاهَا
4. O unjust one, whenever I implore 
You turn away, lost and distraught 
٤. يا ظَلُوماً كلَّمَا اسْتَع
 طَفْتُهُ صَدَّ وتَاهَا
5. In your wandering, while things that grow 
Will eventually come to an end 
٥. زِدتَ في تِيهكَ والشيْ
 ءُ إِذا زَادَ تَناهَى
6. The rule of beauty must wane  
Though its reign may long remain 
٦. تَتَقَضّى دولةُ الحُس
 نِ وإِن طَالَ مَدَاهَا
7. If only the deaf could hear my plaint 
And pity my tortured heart   
٧. رَاحَتِي لو سَمِعَ الشّك
 وى إِلَيهِ وَوَعَاهَا
8. But those who cannot hear  
Will not listen when called 
٨. غيرَ أَنَّ الصُّمَّ لاَ تَس
 مَعُ نَجوَى مَن دَعاهَا
9. If he called my withered bones 
They would answer his summons   
٩. وَهوَ لو نَادى عِظامي
 رِمّةً لَبّى صَداهَا
10. I have entrusted my soul to one 
Who is intimate with estrangement 
١٠. مُتِلفٌ بالهَجر نَفسي
 وإِليهِ مُشْتَكاهَا
11. And made my only confidant  
The source of my torment 
١١. مُستَقِلٌّ كُلَّ ما تَل
 قاهُ فيهِ مِن أَذَاهَا
