1. O home, if you begrudge
Sheltering me,

What takes the place of downpours.

Vultures hover over him!

5. So their hordes dispersed me
By night, scattered and remote.

6. The turns of fate glide on,
Bearing mishaps or ignoring them.

7. Doing good, not on purpose,
And evil, leaning on support.

8. My days-how many
Their casements have made me despair!

9. They have straitened me of my flowers
And their tyranny has willfully thwarted me.

10. They sought me out with misfortunes
And approached me without moderation.

11. To you I complain of a sorrow
Increasing daily and waxing.

12. It has forbidden gladness to a heart
That feels no joy in what it gains.

13. Were it not for its suffering
It would not meet with any harshness.
