1. A man who claims Islam as his faith
Is rescued by the sultan and the law.

2. But my Master fulfills my needs though I'm remote;
He hears my prayers and complaints no more.

3. His sea of bounty has waves of gifts galore,
His rain of grace has ample drops and pour.

4. By the grace He gives we swear an oath -
By the love you have, a solemn oath once more!

5. Though you're estranged we'll guard steadfast
The faith whose ways our generous creed extols.

6. And when a mischief-maker tries to foil its pact,
Morals and virtues will uphold its goals.

7. We are not like the tribe who blamed their guide
When they asked for justice but cruelty abides.

8. We've ruled you justly with our knowledge true -
They never judged you by what they thought they knew!

9. They never recognized your merit and your worth -
Though their manners were so noble and famed on earth.

10. It's not because they are above all human flaw -
Civility and manners they never saw!

11. The most fatal illness that kills all Arab tribes -
When their necks are ruled by foreign alien scribes!

12. The glory of religion has spurned those who vie
Whose stars lie in the heavens of high ambition's sky.

13. When manners fail and turn away from sight
Before you they will come within your might.

14. If you've penned an ode in some letter or book
The sea of verse has pearls for all who look.

15. God has revealed scriptures with jewels encrypted inside
Men say they are words of wisdom deified.

16. Their likes seem paltry when compared to such treasure;
Read them and you'll find maxims and measures.

17. You asked and we answered in good faith,
Appealing to us is submitting to our grace.

18. If rain should fail, expect from our clouds to pour
Whatever you wish for they will shower and store.

19. If you ever entered in valleys where we lived,
Without a doubt you'd know it as a sacred give.

20. The land remains as fickle as mortal men;
For some there is glory, for some there is pain.

21. If affection for you becomes less understood,
Sustenance, like fate, is divvied as it could.

22. Oh distant ones whose homes have become
Our aching hearts - have you heard or have you seen,

23. Say to us, without your estrangement forlorn
Are our abodes today safety or are yours the norm?

24. You sought refuge in simple flat plains to shun your foes
While people of old took to mountains when raids arose!

25. They said, "To know those pious men brings shame and blame!"
While fellowship with us is one and the same.

26. We don't mix religion with what you say or claim
Until the sultan or the law make it plain.

27. But if you ask us now with certainty and weight
Whatever need you have, we simply state:

28. "Yes!" though you're distant, your presence we miss J
How can we bear your love that makes us reminisce?

29. If your eyes could see, they would witness no sight Of my senses disputing my sorry plight.
My eyes say to my heart, "I've gained them you see!"

30. While my heart says, "You have them, but the longing hurts me!"
When you see a king whose loyalty makes him lead

31. Whose servants are the sons of worldly greed
Oh rider crossing the barren wild plain

32. Whose ambition can outrun the fastest steed!
Give my Lord Mu'in al-Din - king of Mamluks grand -

33. A message from me though now far from his holy land
And say to him, "Among Turks you are best"

34. For modesty, religion, courage zest
You're the most just arbitrator people attest

35. Plaintiff, defendant, judge - three in one manifest
Say, "Is there, Oh virtuous editable guide

36. Whose justice the world knows far and wide,
A failure to do what's due for me though you know

37. My loyalty, sincerity, and service show?
I never thought with our cherished history

38. That bonds of friendship you would cease to see
Even if enemies scheme plots to divide

39. That love between us would be cast aside
But those trustees of yours and their wicked lies

40. To you have made truth and falseness equal in your eyes."
They've sold you cheap, seeking only riches in their quest Even if they destroy you - oh what a pest!

41. By God they didn't advise truthfully then
Suspicion surrounds all they say to you my friend

42. How they've twisted words and disrupted the role
Of envoys - failed is the purpose of their goal

43. Where is your zeal and dignified soul
When they make you follow their disgrace so droll?

44. Why not refuse in modesty at least
What Arabs and non-Arabs alike detest?

45. You granted us amnesty while swords were sheathed
No Persian scimitars were bloodied or unlatched

46. I thought your ally was sacred to you
Whom no disgrace or old age bids adieu

47. That your neighbor was neighbor to heavens divine
Who fears no enemies or their vengeance in kind

48. But loyalty like Osama's is so rare to find
While destiny's pen writes as it's inclined

49. We've sinned and fled but no excuse can suffice
For what children and women had to pay as price

50. You've left them to Western Christians in accord
With vile mobs whose deeds incur God's abhor

51. They are your enemies and God protects you from their harm
Yet you deem them as allies who work as your right arm!

52. When rising to glory they refuse to give support
And when you've reached the peak they start cavort

53. And if calamities befall you in some way
They smile at your anguish as you weep and pray

54. But when their darkness disappears from sight
With your strong resolve and towering height

55. You drink from a bitter cup that turmoil brings
While their portion from you is but golden rings

56. If some gossip comes to them slandering your name
That is what they love and that will bring them fame

57. All whom you reject they will clasp near their hearts
While true friends are pushed away screened apart

58. What ingratitude and blasphemy they have shown
To your endless grace, but fools will never have known!

59. Test them as I was tested then you will see
What real men show when tried by calamity!

60. Is there one whose aid can match mine
When fate bares its blade and words will entwine?

61. Or one there who can speak with prowess so great
That the best of men would yield to his weight?

62. But your advisors ranked me lowest of all
Oh if only affection we could equal install!

63. I am not upset at those whom you befriend
No hurt remains if it brings you content

64. I do not mourn leaving a land wherein
Vultures and owls find no sorrow or chagrin

65. I reached out toward the sun - my hands now despair
Clutching emptiness and lingering despair

66. But leaving you brought me woe and pain
In my heart rages a fire with blazing flame

67. So farewell - my life won't pass easily, it's true
But whatever grief existence brings me from you

68. Is also a blessing sent from God above!
