1. I will spend my abundance to gain virtues,
With which I will be immortalized after death.

2. And I will strive for glory, fearing no hardship,
Nor dreading a vengeful or spiteful foe.

3. With every youth who meets death with a smile,
As though to him death brings renewed life.

4. If I gain what I hope for, it’s due to generosity,
And if I die I’ll leave behind enduring praise.
