1. Say to Reyem in the garb of the Arabs
I complain to you of what your name does to me
١. قُولا لريمٍ في حِلَّةِ العَرَبِ
إليك أشكُو ما يَصْنَعُ اسمُك بي
2. With what your eyes deemed lawful shedding my blood
And capturing my heart among the loot
٢. بما استجازَتْ عيناكِ سفكَ دَمِي
وأَخْذَ قَلبي في جُملةِ السَّلَبِ
3. Your neighbor is more deserving of guarding his covenant
If you guarded the sanctity of lineage
٣. جارُكِ أولَى بِرَعْيِ ذِمّتِه
إن أنْتِ رَاعيتِ حُرمةَ الصّقَبِ
4. Were it not for you, and time is all wonder
My covenant with the Arabs would not have been violated
٤. لولاكِ والدَّهرُ كلُّه عجَبٌ
ما خُفِرَتْ فيَّ ذِمّةُ العَرَبِ
5. This was a love when I was in Bulaheniya
A wondrous thing for men, a wondrous thing
٥. هذا هوىً كنتُ في بُلَهْنِيَةٍ
عنه فيا للرّجالِ للعَجَبِ
6. Does the noble one of pure lineage
Kidnap a slave of foreign lineage?
٦. أيسترقُّ الكريمَ ذَا النّسبِ ال
واضِحِ عبدٌ مُستعجِمُ النّسَبِ
7. And avenge one in whom is dishonor
For bearing the insults and sorrows?
٧. ويَحملُ الثّأْرَ مَن به خَوَرٌ
عن احتمالِ الحجَالِ والقُلُبِ
8. I implore you by God in bearing my blood
For my people will not overlook my request
٨. نشدتُكِ اللهَ في احتمالِ دَمي
فمعشَرِي ما يفوتُهم طَلَبي
9. What the family of Mahallabi missed before me
Were rights of revenge in past eras
٩. ما فاتَ قومِي آلَ المهلَّبِ مِن
قبلِيَ ثأرٌ في سَالِفِ الحِقَبِ
10. So do not shed the blood of one of propriety
Who writes by his pens on parchment
١٠. فلا تُرِيقي دماً لذِي أدبٍ
يسطُو بأقلامه على القضُبِ
