1. Behold the abodes of the family of Manqidh
They are lessons for the wise and admonitions for the onlooker

2. They dwelt there in protected prosperity
With virtues, achievements, and glories

3. No king or man of authority coveted them
Except he retreated from them, his heart fluttering

4. Yearning for them but unable to obtain them
And who dares to enter the lair of the watchful lion?

5. But fate befell them and destroyed those within
And returned its lofty edifices to the cycle of fate

6. When I remember them, a sorrow seizes me
Clouds of my rushing tears gather
