1. Their abode was watered by clouds of sorrow, drenching it,
The light in the garden faded and withered away,

2. And it brought back pleasant nights now passed,
Along with the bliss of a life whose joys are no more.

3. I yearn for what is beyond my reach,
My fanciful hopes betray my wistful heart.

4. Some hopes lead astray, and when life ends,
How can its beginnings be repeated?

5. A place where I spent my exuberant youth,
At times conversing, at times joking and teasing.

6. I revisit the pleasures and bliss of youth,
And attack every difficulty like a lion.

7. I knew it before the eyes of fascination unveiled it -
Black fate meets the one who aspires beyond his limits.

8. A herd of gazelles conceals the valley beyond,
Concealing from my imagination their young.

9. Each brother of mine is generously defiant -
When he unsheathes his sword its polish gleams.

10. Of what was, only memories remain,
And the regret of a heart that knows no rest.

11. I used to think the transient would remain,
And the misguided strays from the path of wisdom.

12. It was but a specter I mistook for reality -
When reality appears, the specter disappears.
