1. Who will inform the content and resigned man,
And the wayfaring son of the road, the emigrant, the determined,

2. That the dew has died, so fortify yourselves
With despair from bringing close or sending away.

3. Let not one in need show his face
To one in wealth, indifferent, withholding.

4. The hopeful attains not the dew of his palm
Except through the humiliation of the humble and submissive.

5. Will the wronged benefit if the billows of a sea
That cannot be calmed crash?

6. Praiseworthy is despair from an advisor
Who is neither deceitful nor treacherous.

7. And who does not water hopes in the direction of life,
For it is the destroyer of the covetous.

8. Do not hope for people, for all of existence
Withdraws the hand of the withholder, the gatherer.

9. That which their hands contain, it is like
The snatching of the ravenous, famished lion.

10. They have heard of generosity, but because of their stinginess
It did not appeal to the hearer.

11. And all of them, if you unveil them
Are like the mirage of the glowing desert.

12. So leave them and seek from God what
They were stingy with, of His abundant grace.

13. For the severing of one who joins
Or the joining of one who severs is inconsequential.

14. He has apportioned sustenance among people
In energetic and tranquil, and idle.

15. Each of them comes to Him from his sustenance
Sufficient, if he were content.

16. But they, in their greed, are blind
To the clear, guiding path.

17. If they were certain that they have a Provider
Who none can prevent from what He gives,

18. Nor for what He elevates of a degrader,
Nor for what He degrades of an elevator,

19. They would not have sought from other than the Giver, nor would they call,
When desperate, on other than the Hearer.
