1. The poor soul yearns for wealth
Yet knows not that poverty may be best

2. For money is the root of all worries
Though it comforts the eye of the affluent

3. Poverty protects one from the envious
And thieves who plot to steal his provisions

4. Neither devil nor sultan approaches a pauper
Nor would they profit from tormenting him

5. Many who flaunted wealth were killed
Or tortured to reveal their secrets

6. Some foolishly scorn poverty
Yet wealth often ruins one's soul

7. Neither does poverty refine a free heart
Nor assets in plenty bring peace of mind

8. The most wretched in this life is a noble man
Who humbles himself before his foes aware
