1. I saw her white with braids
In a gathering with seated company

2. Like the full moon on a complete night, in her hand
A lute stirring the still breath

3. So I praised her with a poem and asked her
For connection to strike the pinnacle of glory

4. And I mentioned in my verse to her that I am a man
Tested in love and bankrupt

5. She said, and did not grant chastity, but rather
Allowed what God gave her in coyness

6. O you who pretends that with his verse
Can woo the daughters of people
