And he who revels in his wealth and abundance.

١. ويفرح يوم العيد من فيه متعة
ومستمتع في ملكه المال والوفر

2. A youth whose days laughed and whose times
Brought him ease and lifted him from the hardship of fate.

٢. فتى ضحكت أيامه وزمانه
إليه وأعداه على عسره الدهر

3. Ask me not how my feast day is, for I
Saw the frail state that has no worth.

٣. فلا تسألوني كيف عيدي فإنني
رأيت الرقيق الحال ليس له قدر

4. Ask the state about my feast day, and ask it not,
For the tongue of the youth in hardship is silenced by poverty.

٤. سلوا الحال عن عيدي ولا تسلونها
لسان الفتى بالعسر أسكته الفقر

5. A lonesome, lonely, poor young man, his head bowed,
And his companion poverty, so fortune has hardened against him.

٥. غريب وحيد أحنف شاب رأسه
وصاحبه فقر فصارمه اليسر
