1. In a corrupt age do not mingle
With unworthy company, abandon vanity,

2. And associate with people in distress, even
If you are wealthy, feign poverty.

3. Do you not see the date palm when
They espy no date fruit in its heart

4. Is abandoned, and people ascribe
No worth to it and will not raise its value.

5. It is safe from one who desires to climb it
And corrupt it, eating unripe dates and buds.

6. What a difference between one who doubts
And one convinced! If it inclines away from him

7. He shows it perfidy.
