1. How many brides have I divorced before consummation
And written the divorce before the marriage gift

2. Without a written contract or witnesses
But made the separation before the divorce

3. And enjoyed intimacy with her while my heart
Was still not longing for her

4. Wary of shame, hardship, and harm
And bad manners and morals

5. Without judge, registrar or witnesses
After a binding oath

6. So I turned away from them all and clung
To cutting off ties which is better than clinging

7. All this happened with the support of a Lord
