1. I found one of sound mind and piety
That safety lies between silence and panic

2. And he told me in the tongue of knowledge from his nose
That contentment is more appropriate for me than greed

3. And he reminded me of prohibitions I do not deny
Of virtues were it not for the abundance of deceit

4. Indeed, patience leads me to honor
While recklessness leads to morals and agony

5. And experience of days admonished me
Not to be close to what nears disgrace

6. Fearing blemish in suspicion near me
And a neighbor controls a neighbor's limits in partnership

7. And God increased me with a gift of aid from His grace
My nature prevented from suckling

8. I despaired that I would see a master, and He let me see
My despair of arrogance that I walk with the sheep

9. And I became like a wild animal content with little
Not turning to the countryside fearing pain
