1. I asked the wise about blindness
Of the blind who have mastered skill

2. They said it's an affliction with reward
For dislike though ugly in appearance

3. So I asked their elder Hummam, tell me more
He said it's the way to depravity

4. I said you're right about the individual
He said you're wrong about the whole

5. If you see a good blind man
He left evil and bad nature

6. And is a hypocrite so avoid him, he's a wolf
With wares for every disgrace

7. I said what's the proof, he said: this
Begging is their craft

8. Whom I heard recite poor poetry
The ear dislikes hearing it

9. And whoever led prayer or recited Quran
Complains forever of hunger

10. The storytellers of fables - so I saw prison
United them in neglect of virtues

11. And whoever pretended education among them
Combined depravity and rags

12. When the Prophet intercedes for each sinner
What can the rulers hope for intercession?
