1. I am amazed, though wonders abound,
By an envier who desires the envier's punishment,

2. Though the malady is shared, and every envier
Differs only by more or less;

3. Or one who denies a sin, yet does the like,
Amazed at the sinner or the corrupt;

4. And of wonders - provoking laughter with anger -
Is the rich man's rage against the ascetic poor.
