1. The world's blessings end in ruin
They're not worth striving for, or being consumed

2. It builds and destroys what it erected
Giving and taking back from my hands what it loaned

3. Its unlawful tied to its lawful
Its lawful tied to its rubble

4. Souls are by nature cruel
Flowing habitually through its days

5. I shunned all forbidden desires
Fearing harm in its days

6. And turned my will from the lawful's face
When my doom was little of its unlawful

7. Habits I'd abandoned return
To bind its lawful by constancy

8. Rarely does man find in himself
Obedience to bridle its recklessness

9. Unless what traits his soul refined
With righteousness and faith sustained it

10. Did I think myself the one who granted it
Pride that makes the soul ignore its reigns?

11. I refined my soul, though in youth
Turbid and blemished at its rounding

12. And God's grace which imbued it
From all wickedness to its Islam
