I am al-Zubayr, son of al-ʿAwwām,
I am al-Zubayr, son of al-ʿAwwām.
A lion—brave, a horseman of Islam;
A brave lion, a horseman of Islam.

أقتلI slay كلevery فارسhorseman ضرغامlion
أقتل كل فارس ضرغام
A noble chief, stouthearted, a charging horseman.
A noble, valiant chief, a horseman fierce in attack.
I kill every horseman—I am a lion.
I slay every lion-like horseman.
وإننيand indeed I يومon the day of الوغىbattle صدامfierce assailant
وإنني يوم الوغى صدام
وناصرand a defender فيin حانهاits hour الإسلامIslam
وناصر في حانها الإسلام
And on battle’s day I clash head-on,
And indeed, on the day of battle, I am a fierce assailant.
And in that hour I champion Islam.
And a defender of Islam in its hour.
