قد جعلت نفسي في أديم

قد جعلت نفسي في أديم

محرَّم الدّباغِ ذي هُزوم

محرَّم الدّباغِ ذي هُزوم

I set myself upon a hide—

I have placed my soul in a hide,

forbidden to tanning, seamed with deep folds—

Untanned and full of hollows;

ثُمَّ رمت بي عُرض الدَيمُوم

ثُمَّ رمت بي عُرض الدَيمُوم

في بادحٍ من وهجِ السُموم

في بادحٍ من وهجِ السُموم

then she flung me across the trackless desert’s breadth,

Then it flung me into the midst of the wasteland,

amid the scorching blaze of the simoom,

In the oppressive heat of the scorching wind,

عند اطلاع وَعرةِ النجوم

عند اطلاع وَعرةِ النجوم

when the harsh stars were rising.

At the rising of the harsh one among the stars.
