أَلم تَرَ أَن البَغلَ يَتبَعُ إِلفَهُ

أَلم تَرَ أَن البَغلَ يَتبَعُ إِلفَهُ

كَما عامِرٌ وَاللُّؤم مُؤتَلفانِ

كَما عامِرٌ وَاللُّؤم مُؤتَلفانِ

Have you not seen that the mule follows its companion,

Don't you see that the mule only follows his familiar ways,

just as ʿĀmir and baseness are joined together?

Just as Aamer and ignominy are well acquainted.
