Does the free man owe the days a debt of vengeance

that the revolving firmament demands of him?

Gently, O Time, be a little kinder.

Is there no sobriety or hangover after drunkenness?

Is there no shame in the humiliation of the noble

upon you, while no disgrace is easy for the free man to bear?

My life would ransom the one I have taken far away; my patience

accompanies him, while my heart is distraught.

And I remember him with burning breaths,

    echoed by burning entrails.

My remaining after your departure—rather, my life—

I see disgrace in it, and disgrace is fire.
