Between me and separation lies discord; if it has shattered

my union, I entrust my affairs and submit.

    فان سلك رجائي فيك منظوم

    And if it has scattered my strand, it has not acted justly;

for the strand of my hope in you remains strung.

May rain bless the days of a dear friend, whom I never recall

without yearning, as the white gazelle has yearned.

Whenever I draw a breath from his direction,

out of longing, a gentle breath streams down from my eyes.

So the soul, after his departure, is an ember with a description:

Mīm and wāw and jīm, with jīm after it.

May the nights and days bring us together,

if Time acts fairly—yet fairness is nowhere to be found.
