They exposed themselves openly to the shining sun,
Basking in the radiant sun openly
And offered her their bodies, from belly to back.
They offered their bodies belly up to back
ولوand had نطقتspoken شمسthe sun النهارof daytime لسبحتshe would have sung praises

And had the sun of day spoken, she would have sung
If the sun of day could speak it would chant
The praises of Him who fashioned them from raw gold.
Praise for He who molded them from ambergris

The sun is no more splendid than a radiant beauty
What is more beautiful than the sun's splendor
Across whose cheeks the gleams of blossoms roam.
Wandering with cheeks shining like flowers

And what of that launch they had boarded [wording uncertain],
What about that delicate waist He designed
And sped along with the oar, playing upon the sea?
As they hastened with paddles playing in the sea

Wrists [apparently intended] cannot withstand a lover's hand—
Strongholds that cannot be conquered by a lover’s hand
How, then, could they bear storming the sea by force?
How then did they endure the sea’s invasion by force
وللضعفand weakness has أحياناsometimes علىfor الفتكslaying قدرةpower
كماjust as تفتكlays low الصهباءtawny wine بالأصيدthe proud man الحرfreeborn
And weakness sometimes has the power to slay,
For in weakness there is sometimes power over destruction
As tawny wine lays low the proud, freeborn man.
As the blond belle destroys the free lion
