Since you left, I have grown used to lamentation and sleeplessness,

And I have bid farewell to patient endurance and slumber.

And I harbored sorrow when there passed away

A time that, had you stayed, would have been pleasant.

And the eye's tears have grown so delicate that

You would surely take them for cheeks, so delicate are they.

I have been worn down by love for you, yet

I find my heart's passion for you still fresh.

Nor has the tormented one hoped to see you,

While even the phantom has been loath to return.

Whenever I say, 'Love's anguish has left me,'

I remember the familiar haunts and the pledges.
