Return to union, then return once more.

And give freely of your sweet lips.

    كانت لكم قبله وعود

    Do not think I have forgotten a promise;

There had been promises to you before it.

Eid has indeed passed; you never inquired,

Nor did you offer a reply to the message.

At every Eid we have gazelles

Who give freely at Eid if you are stingy.

Why, then, should I weep for a love

That you killed through the wrongs you committed?

    فهل ندمنا كما ندمتم

    We have indeed turned away, as you turned away;

Have we, then, regretted it as you have?

Indeed, if I wish, a love arises

Whose fire surpasses all you have known.

I created you through passion, and so you became

My heart's torment whenever you grew distant.

How, then, will you fare if we awaken

From passion, just as you awoke?

Indeed, I weep for you, over you,

In verse—and you are its inspirers.

    Never despair of a heart

In whose depths you have dwelt.
