even though my malady runs wild in my longing for you.

من قسوة الصد والتبريح أحشائي
You abandoned me to my fate, after the wasting away
of my vitals from cruel rejection and torment.

قلبي لما وجدته غير أشلاء
For if the gazelle of al-Hamra had come to raid
my heart, she would have found it nothing but torn remains.

I spend the night mourning a time whose sweetness passed
like a flash of lightning in the folds of a dark night.

And I send forth a burning, searing sigh,
like the blaze of embers in thickets of reeds.

if you had mercy, you would visit one yearning and lovesick,
upon whom your coldness has cast a thousand afflictions.
