1. إن الهدايا التي راعتك قد ضمنت

    ذهاب عقلك لما غرّك الذهب

    Indeed, the gifts that dazzled you have ensured

    The loss of your reason when gold beguiled you.

  2. سيقت إليك فلم يحرج بها شرفٌ

    يذودُ عنك ولا دينٌ ولا حسَبُ

    They were brought to you, yet they troubled no honor

    That shields you, nor faith, nor ancestral honor.

  3. عهدي بقومك لا يرضون عن رجل

    أجلّ ما يبتغيه المال والنشبُ

    As I know your people, they do not approve of a man

    Whose highest aim is money and property.

  4. فالق العقاب على ما نلت من تحفٍ

    تشكو الجمارك بلواها وتنتحب

    So face the punishment for the precious gifts you obtained;

    The customs service complains of its plight and sobs.
