The gifts that fascinated you ensured

The loss of your reason when gold beguiled you.

That you lost your mind when gold tricked you

سيقت إليك فلم يخرج بها شرف

يذود عنك ولا دين ولا حسبُ

يذود عنك ولا دين ولا حسبُ

They were brought to you, yet no honor came with them

You were led to them but no honour came out

To defend you—nor faith, nor noble lineage.

To defend you, neither faith nor lineage

عهدي بقومك لا يرضون عن رجلٍ

عهدي بقومك لا يرضون عن رجلٍ

أجلّ ما يبتغيه المال والنشبُ

أجلّ ما يبتغيه المال والنشبُ

I know your people do not approve of a man

I know your people are not pleased with a man

Whose highest aim is wealth and property.

Whose greatest desire is money and promotion

فالق العقاب على ما نلت من تحف

فالق العقاب على ما نلت من تحف

تشكو الجمارك بلواها وتنتحبُ

تشكو الجمارك بلواها وتنتحبُ

So face punishment for the precious gifts you received;

So expect punishment for the treasures you took

Customs laments the trouble they bring and sobs.

While customs cry in agony over it
