أعوذI seek refuge باللَهin God منfrom يومa day تصولrage بهon it

I seek refuge in God from a day beset
I seek refuge in Allah from the day
at noon by rains and thunderclaps.
When there are thunderstorms at noon
إذاif طربناwe delight إليهtoward it فيin مواكبهits processions
إذا طربنا إليه في مواكبه
فحظّناthen our share منهfrom it إنذارa warning وإيعادand a threat
فحظّنا منه إنذار وإيعاد
If we delight in it amid its processions,
If we are led to it in procession
our share from it is warning and threat.
Our share of it is warning and appointment
كلّeach one إلىtoward إلفهhis beloved يهفوyearns بآصرةthrough a bond

إن الزمان بأهل الصدق مرصاد
Shattering upheavals, like the days Time visits upon us;
Earthquakes like the days of time with us
indeed, Time lies in wait for the truthful.
Time for the truthful people is an ambush
لوif كانthere were فيin الدهرtime مشتاقٌa yearning lover لهhe had ثقةٌtrust
لو كان في الدهر مشتاقٌ له ثقةٌ
بمنin the one whom يحبhe loves لكانواthey would have been بالهوىwith love جادواthey gave freely
بمن يحب لكانوا بالهوى جادوا
If ever a yearning lover had trust
If there was in life a lover who trusts
in the one he loves, they would have given love freely.
In whom he loves they would have been generous with love
ألاذهمit drove them to seek refuge بتجنيهthrough its unjust treatment فأهلكهمthen it destroyed them
ألاذهم بتجنيه فأهلكهم
عيبٌa disgrace عليهمupon them فظيعdreadful إنif هموthey عادواthey return
عيبٌ عليهم فظيع إن همو عادوا
Its cruelty drove them to seek refuge; then it destroyed them.
Blame them for their gathering then destruction
