The flowers grew jealous of my longing for you,

And wished for a sip from your lips.

And shuns you and casts grit into your eyes.

O you of gentle spirit, what coy charm is this!

My poetry about you is inspired by beauty.

My soul was enraptured by your noble essence.

In a world teeming with the impossible.

You yourself were with me—so imagination said,

And we shared draughts of bliss like union.

O you, the one meant by beauty's light,

I have fallen in love with illusion, so listen and come.

I kissed your lips with my soul,

And obeyed love in my tenderness toward you.

If only I knew what my longing for you is!

If only I knew what my tenderness toward you is!

Your beauty says, among the things it says,

    That the full moon of night has your countenance;

And the full moon confesses as it sets

That you gave it your enchantment to drink.
