From my cherished homeland I emigrate, compelled.
I reluctantly leave my beloved homeland
And every beloved in life will be compelled.
And every loved one in life I will leave behind

I willingly bid her farewell with tears, because I
I bid it farewell with tears willingly
Believe that tears speak for me.
For I think tears convey the anguish of my mind

A land that shunned me, and long has its coldness lasted,
A country that deserted me, prolonged its disdain
For, at the bidding of God and love, I am a Muslim.
For I, by Allah's will and love, am Muslim

Noble lands, and noble soil,
A generous country, generous land
Yet under the law of passionate longing, I am nobler.
But I, in passion's path, am most generous

I shall weep for her when I leave her soil.
I will cry when I leave its land
Ah, it is the one wronged in love who does wrong.
Alas, the oppressed in love is wronged

I have abandoned a land whose name I do not know,
I left a country whose name I do not know
Nor its features; indeed, I return to God.
Nor its shape, to Allah I will return

A land that sees error as guidance,
A country that sees misguidance as guidance
And to falsehood—evil falsehood—it listens and submits.
And for false idols, evil it accepts and kneels

If Al-Uzza called, they would answer her call
And their priest kneels down in fear.
And their priests in fear would kneel and fall

O Mecca, my home—how can that be a home
Mecca, my home - how can it be
Where sinful idolatry speaks and she submits?
Where blasphemy utters and bows shamefully

A land that betrays God in His majesty,
A country that betrays Allah in its pride
And runs and grazes in the mud—the mud of idolatry.
In the mud of polytheism it flows unrestrained

A stranger in the abode of idolatry—its kin are not his kin,
A stranger in the land of polytheism, its people not my kin
Even though ancestors and paternal uncles were noble there.
Though honored ancestors and uncles dwell within

God would not let me live in a home abased
Allah refused that I live in a land that disgraces Him
Despite its glory, by idols in the arena of justice.
While idols in the fervor of justice reign supreme

And were it not for fear of idolatry—and idolatry is darkness—
Were it not for fear of polytheism and its darkness
I would have rubbed my cheek in the dust of her precincts, out of longing.
I would have buried myself in its valleys in passion

Years and long days I spent
While Mecca sought my love as a gift and begged for it.
While Mecca sought my guidance and pleading

I knew, and the land knows its people
That I alone was the guardian of her morals.
That I alone protected its morals and ways

So, would that she might know sleep after I am gone.
Woe to it - it will know no sleep after me

Nor tasted you in your nights the darkness of sleep

And from my blood the universe's tears pour forth.
And from my blood the tears of the world will pour

My heart is close to her when it goes into exile.
My heart is close though far when exiled

The home of yearning and fire.
The home of passion and fire

And O light of my eyelids and dreams of my pains,
O light of my eyes and dreams of my sorrows

I leave a home, if I could endure, I would ransom
With my sweetest days and my gentlest dreams.
With the most beautiful of my days and gentlest of my dreams
