Calamities of many kinds assail my heart
Afflictions and sorrows assail the resolute,
as sand-sweeping winds assail the rock.
As the raging winds erode the rock.

تعالتrose high فلمso did not تعبأpay heed بغطرسةto the arrogance الدهرof time
My heart has not grown hard; rather, my resolve
My heart may have hardened, but my ambition
has risen high and paid no heed to time’s arrogance.
Rose above the arrogance of fate.

So do not think that time, however tyrannical,
Do not assume that time, however cruel,
will one day force me onto a rugged course.
Will one day force me onto a ship of misery.

An unyielding soul has refused to let me endure oppression,
My defiant soul refuses to bear injustice;
possessed of all the harshness of this age’s tyranny.
It shares the hardship that unjust times bring.

إذاif لمnot أبتI make spend the night أعداءthe enemies مصرof Egypt علىon جمرembers
Then may the Mubarak family never praise my striving,
I do not praise those whose prosperity grows
if I do not make Egypt’s enemies spend the night on embers.
While Egypt’s enemies sit on burning coals.

By the life of the dark nights, which bear witness
By these long, dark nights that bear witness
to my valor, which destroyed the terror they brought,
To my misery which brought so much panic -

if a usurper does not willingly depart from the Nile—
If the usurper does not willingly leave the Nile,
one whose stay among us we deem more harmful than unbelief—
His stay among us will be worse than blasphemy.

علىfor ماwhat جنتcommitted يمناهhis right hand فيin مصرEgypt منof نكرoutrages
I shall surely draw from the people a rain of wrath and vengeance,
The people will call down fury and vengeance
for the outrages his right hand has committed in Egypt.
Upon the disgrace he has brought Egypt.

Then a bold warrior will rage, and a ruthless fighter scowl,
The betrayed will frown and glare,
and a man robbed of kin will resort to reckless evil.
The bereaved will cry out in reckless rage.

And the men of the Nile will become wrathful lions,
The men of the Nile will become roaring lions
strutting in a cloak of slaughter and roaring.
Baring fangs in a chill of slaughter and war.

Those people’s expectations have surely failed, if they were deceived by
The enemy was wrong to be deceived
the raging seas’ turning toward ebb tide.
By the raging sea’s surge toward the shoals.

For lions may growl while they lie crouched,
The lions roar as they lie waiting,
as covered water seethes within the pot.
Like water boiling in a covered pot.

Have they not heard that, when the stars fall,
Did it not occur to them that when stars fall
they become missiles that no rebuke can restrain?
They become missiles that shouts cannot deter?

God has refused to let us perish while a remnant remains among us
God refused to let us perish, for in us remains
that cannot bear our being fettered in captivity.
A remnant He is too proud to see in shackles.

لهit has ماwhat لأهلbelongs to the people of الغربthe West إنif هبّit rises منof أزرstrength

How, then, can an honored people be subjected to humiliation,
So how can the heavens crash down upon a people
which, if it rises, has the same strength as the people of the West?
As valued as those of the West, if they came to help?

So desist, sons of the Thames, from plundering souls
Enough, sons of Numidia, cease plundering souls
that strive to live among the radiant stars.
Who strive to live under the dazzling stars.
