Where are you driving the heroes so forcefully?

Is your reason still intact, or does madness in you never subside?

You shackle people of counsel, then parade them away,

In their fetters, while time has grown relentless in misfortune.

And you imprison the free, while time bares its teeth,

And because of you the black nights have reached utter hardship.

We would have excused you, had you not claimed tomorrow's kingship,

And had you not been crown prince in our own day.

By your life, what you have done is nothing

But a force that has worn away love and affection.

And what have you to do with Yemen's kingship? For it belongs

To one who courts the world and gives her sound judgment as a bride-price.

    And your two hands have planted nothing but wrongdoing;

So rise and reap a full harvest of hatred from our land.

If you are content with no trait but tyranny,

Then only horrors incite the adversary against you.

You dispute with us in religion's name, while religion is in pain,

Because you have deliberately made its heart bleed.

    It ordained respect for property, honor, and blood;

So why do you find no answer to it but defiance?

And you have kept widening the circle of passions,

Insistently, until they crossed the bounds in your conduct.

Otherwise, is oppressing women and dishonoring them

Lawful, even in the religion of one who worships hard stone?

Do tyrants decree that their homes be demolished

And that they be terrorized, while tears plead with the soldiers?

And do the upright faith and its Lord allow you

To drive women away from their children's food?

You left them while the sun poured out its fire

Upon them, with no shelter there and no barrier.

So if they sought the embodiment of purity, Ahmad,

They would find his face damp from what you have done to them.

And indeed people's hearts have grown sick,

Because you have shattered religion and principle.

Is not what you have done something none would condone

Except beasts—though by them we do not mean the lion?

    If history ever forgets, the guilt is clear;

And if the world has grown wretched, you have terrorized it through guile.

Your reckless policy and your leaning toward passion,

And your love of informers and oppression have brought ruin.

And indeed it pleased us to see you in command

Over us, for religion made the purpose known to us.

We learned what you keep hidden for the people tomorrow,

If God grants you the caliphate and glory.

So when you conspired, we were relieved, because we

Found that you keep no covenant with the homelands.

So there is no blame if you have no bond with our hearts,

And no blame if we grant you neither affection nor praise.

You have wronged the Chosen One by violating his law,

So you are now seen as a black spot in his religion.
