أفقدونا المحاكم المحكمات

وهي قطب الصلاح والصّالحاتِ

وهي قطب الصلاح والصّالحاتِ

They deprived us of the firmly established courts,

They have deprived us of righteous courts,

and they are the pivot of righteousness and good deeds.

The pillar of righteousness and virtuous women.

استهانوا بشأنها سلبوها

استهانوا بشأنها سلبوها

عِزَّها والجلال والمكرمات

عِزَّها والجلال والمكرمات

They scorned their standing and stripped them

They belittled it, robbed it

of their honor, majesty, and noble distinctions.

Of its glory, grandeur and honors.

قتلت سورة القيامة والحشر

قتلت سورة القيامة والحشر

وآيات سورة النّازعات

وآيات سورة النّازعات

The surahs al-Qiyamah and al-Hashr were slain,

The chapter on Resurrection and Gathering wept,

and the verses of Surah al-Nazi‘at.

As did the verses of The Chargers.

وبكت رهبة ونادت بصوت

وبكت رهبة ونادت بصوت

كاد يخفيه هاطل العبرات

كاد يخفيه هاطل العبرات

And they wept in dread and called out in a voice

Reverence wept with a voice

almost concealed by a downpour of tears:

Almost drowned by a downpour of tears.

نزِّهونا عن الحرام جميعاً

نزِّهونا عن الحرام جميعاً

واقطعوا السَّارقين والسارقات

واقطعوا السَّارقين والسارقات

Keep us all free of what is forbidden,

Keep us all from the unlawful,

and cut off the hands of male and female thieves.

And cut off the hands of thieves, male and female.

كُلِّ سحتٍ ورشوة وغلولٍ

كُلِّ سحتٍ ورشوة وغلولٍ

عند كلّ الورى من المنكراتِ

عند كلّ الورى من المنكراتِ

All ill-gotten gain, bribery, and embezzlement

All bribery, graft, and plunder,

are, to all humankind, among reprehensible deeds.

Are abominations to all people.

قد درسنا الأعراف و الملك

قد درسنا الأعراف و الملك

والزُّخرف والمرسلات والعاديات

والزُّخرف والمرسلات والعاديات

We have studied al-A‘raf and al-Mulk,

We have studied customs, possessions,

and al-Zukhruf, al-Mursalat, and al-‘Adiyat.

Adornment, The Messengers, and The Coursers,

نزهو منصب الشريعة حقاً

نزهو منصب الشريعة حقاً

بالمعاش الحقيق والفضلاتِ

بالمعاش الحقيق والفضلاتِ

Truly keep the office of Sharia above reproach

We absolve the office of Sharia righteously

with a fitting livelihood and additional provisions.

With honest livelihood and extra.

قرّروا للولاة والجند والحكام

قرّروا للولاة والجند والحكام

ارزاقهم من الحاصلات

ارزاقهم من الحاصلات

Allot to governors, soldiers, and judges

Apportion for governors, soldiers and rulers,

their stipends from the revenues.

Their sustenance from the proceeds.

واهتدوا للرشاد بالعلما فالامر

واهتدوا للرشاد بالعلما فالامر

شورى بواضح البيّناتِ

شورى بواضح البيّناتِ

And seek right guidance through scholars, for affairs

And be guided to righteousness through knowledge. Authority is

are settled through consultation based on clear proofs.

ربٍّ رحماك بالشريعة والحكام

ربٍّ رحماك بالشريعة والحكام

والمصلحين والمصلحات

والمصلحين والمصلحات

Lord, have mercy on Sharia and the judges,

Lord, may Your mercy be upon the Sharia, rulers,

and on men and women who work for reform,

Reformers and reforms.

وذوي الفضل والعفاف وأهل الدين

وذوي الفضل والعفاف وأهل الدين

والبائسين والبائسات

والبائسين والبائسات

and those of virtue and chastity, and the people of faith,

And people of merit, chastity, religion,

and destitute men and women.

The miserable, male and female.

ربّنا اطمس على نقود لصوصٍ

ربّنا اطمس على نقود لصوصٍ

وشخوصٍ من الولاة الدُّهاةِ

وشخوصٍ من الولاة الدُّهاةِ

Our Lord, blot out the money of thieves

Our Lord, erase plundered money

and figures among the cunning governors.

Of bandits and corrupt governors.

ربّنا اشدد على قلوب ذئابٍ

ربّنا اشدد على قلوب ذئابٍ

في ثياب على الورى عاديات

في ثياب على الورى عاديات

Our Lord, harden the hearts of wolves

Our Lord, be stern with the hearts of wolves

clad in garments, assailing humankind.

In the guise of sheep amongst people.

عفَوك الله من دواعي التسليط

عفَوك الله من دواعي التسليط

على المسلمين والمسلمات

على المسلمين والمسلمات

Your pardon, O God, for what brings oppression

May Allah pardon the causes of unleashing them

upon Muslim men and women.

Upon the Muslim men and women.

فذئاب المقام ارّخت هاجوا

فذئاب المقام ارّخت هاجوا

فتنوا المؤمنين والمؤمنات

فتنوا المؤمنين والمؤمنات

So the wolves of office—I marked the date—raged;

For the wolves of office were set loose, causing strife

they persecuted believing men and women.
