يا روضة بها ضريح حوى

شيخاً فقيهاً مسلم الملة

شيخاً فقيهاً مسلم الملة

O garden, in which a tomb held

O garden housing the tomb of one

a shaykh, a jurist of the Muslim faith.

A learned jurist of the Muslim faith

قد عاش في الدنيا عشير التقى

قد عاش في الدنيا عشير التقى

معاشراً كل الورى بالتي

معاشراً كل الورى بالتي

He lived in this world as a companion of piety,

Who lived in this world among the pious

dealing with all humankind in the [best] manner.

Treating all people with kindness

وفاز بالعلم وحاز الهدى

وفاز بالعلم وحاز الهدى

ولم يحد عن سبل السنة

ولم يحد عن سبل السنة

And he triumphed through knowledge and attained guidance,

And gained knowledge and truth as his prize

and did not stray from the paths of the Sunnah.

Never straying from the Prophet's path

كان حميداً وهو حي كما

كان حميداً وهو حي كما

مات سعيداً نائل المنة

مات سعيداً نائل المنة

He was praiseworthy while alive, just as

While living he was praiseworthy

he died happy, a recipient of grace.

And he died rewarded, graced by blessings

لذاك قد وافق تاريخه

لذاك قد وافق تاريخه

واحمد الخطيب في الجنة

واحمد الخطيب في الجنة

For that reason, his chronogram fittingly read:

Thus his date of passing aligned

“And Ahmad al-Khatib is in Paradise.”
