Glory be to God, lavish in bounty toward all creatures.

He has wondrously fashioned this existence with flawless precision.

فالكونso the universe دليلproof علىof المكونthe Maker حقاtruly
فالكون دليل على المكون حقا
بلindeed فيهin it علىof وحدةoneness المكونthe Maker سلطانcompelling proof
بل فيه على وحدة المكون سلطان
Thus the universe is truly proof of the Maker.
Indeed, the universe proves the Maker is true
Indeed, in it is compelling proof of the Maker’s oneness.
And in it is evidence of the Maker's oneness
اللهGod تعالىexalted is He لهto Him المحامدpraises طراall
الله تعالى له المحامد طرا
برٌّbeneficent ورؤوفand compassionate علىtoward العبادthe servants ورحمانand all-merciful
برٌّ ورؤوف على العباد ورحمان
God, exalted is He—to Him belongs all praise.
God Most High, praise belongs to Him alone
Beneficent and compassionate toward His servants, and all-merciful.
Kind and Merciful to His servants, the Compassionate One
قدindeed أرسلsent خيرthe best الورىcreation بخيرwith the best كتابbook
قد أرسل خير الورى بخير كتاب
يتلوهhe recites it إلىto خيرthe best أمةcommunity هوit is قرآنthe Qur’an
يتلوه إلى خير أمة هو قرآن
He has sent the best of creation with the finest Book.
He sent the best of mankind with the best book
He recites it to the best of communities: it is the Qur’an.
Which he recites to the best nation, and it is the Quran
ماhow! أعجبwondrous ماwhat فيهin it منof بديعexquisite معانmeanings
ما أعجب ما فيه من بديع معان
فيin أبلغmost eloquent لفظwording زهاshone وأوضحand clearest تبيانexposition
في أبلغ لفظ زها وأوضح تبيان
How wondrous are the exquisite meanings within it,
How wondrous is what is in it of profound meanings
Resplendent in the most eloquent wording and the clearest exposition!
In the most eloquent words, lucid and clear explanations
قدindeed أنكرdenied ماwhat فيهin it منof هدىguidance وعلومand branches of knowledge
قد أنكر ما فيه من هدى وعلوم
عميانblind ones قلوبhearts رضواthey were content بصفقةwith a bargain خسرانloss
عميان قلوب رضوا بصفقة خسران
The guidance and knowledge within it have been denied
Those with blind hearts who settled for loss
By the blind of heart, content with a losing bargain.
Denied the guidance and knowledge within
أكرمhow noble! بنبيa prophet أتىcame بهwith it وتحدىand challenged
أكرم بنبي أتى به وتحدى
منwhoever كانwas بليغاeloquent بعصرهin his age وإلىand until الآنnow
من كان بليغا بعصره وإلى الآن
How noble is the prophet who brought it and challenged
He honored the Prophet who came with it and challenged
The eloquent of his own age, and down to this day.
All who were eloquent in his time and until now
قدindeed شرفennobled هذاthis الوجودexistence حينwhen تصدىdevoted himself
قد شرف هذا الوجود حين تصدى
للهدىto guidance وأبدىand displayed بهthrough it قواطعconclusive proofs برهانevidence
للهدى وأبدى به قواطع برهان
He ennobled this existence when he devoted himself
This existence was ennobled when he undertook
To guidance, and through it displayed conclusive proofs.
Guidance and presented definitive proofs
منhe who قامarose بأمرٍat a command منfrom الإلهGod بشيراbearing good tidings
من قام بأمرٍ من الإله بشيرا
فيناamong us ونذيراًand a warner فكانso he was أنصحmost sincere in counsel إنسانhuman being
فينا ونذيراً فكان أنصح إنسان
He who arose at a command from God, bearing good tidings
The one commissioned by God as a bearer of glad tidings
Among us and giving warning, was humankind’s most sincere counselor.
And a warner, he was the most sincere of men
منhe who سادsurpassed جميعall الورىcreation بأجملwith the noblest خلقcharacter
من ساد جميع الورى بأجمل خلق
فيin أحسنthe fairest خلقform سماrose high وأوسعand the broadest عرفانunderstanding
في أحسن خلق سما وأوسع عرفان
He who surpassed all creation through the noblest character
He led all of creation with the most beautiful character
Was exalted in the fairest form and the broadest understanding.
The highest traits, and the widest knowledge
للهto God هداةguides رأواthey saw صباحa dawn رباحsuccess
لله هداة رأوا صباح رباح
منهfrom him فتحرواso they sought بهthrough him الصراطthe path بإذعانwith submission
منه فتحروا به الصراط بإذعان
To God belong guides who saw a dawn of success
By God's guidance, they saw the dawn of winds
From him, then sought the path through him in submission.
And so they hastened on the path in submission
منwhoever صدقهbelieved him فيin سعادةhappiness ونعيمand bliss
من صدقه في سعادة ونعيم
منwhoever صدturned away جحوداin denial فذاكthen that one أخسرthe greatest loser ندمانremorseful
من صد جحودا فذاك أخسر ندمان
Whoever believes him is in happiness and bliss.
Whoever believed him found happiness and bounty
Whoever turns away in denial is the greatest loser, full of regret.
Whoever stubbornly disbelieved is the most regretful loser
ياO خيرbest رسولmessenger إلىto الخلائقthe creatures طراall
يا خير رسول إلى الخلائق طرا
منfrom أشرفnoblest قومpeople بداappeared بأشرفin the noblest أزمانtimes
من أشرف قوم بدا بأشرف أزمان
O best messenger to all creatures,
O the best Messenger to creation by far
From the noblest people, you appeared in the noblest of times.
From the noblest people, arising in the noblest time
ياO خيرbest ملاذrefuge وخيرand best كلevery كريمgenerous person
يا خير ملاذ وخير كل كريم
كنbe ليfor me وتشفعand intercede لدىbefore مراحمmercies ديانthe Judge
كن لي وتشفع لدى مراحم ديان
O best refuge and best of all the generous,
O the best refuge, the best of all the generous
Stand by me, and intercede before the mercies of the Judge.
Be for me, and intercede for me before the Judge
للهto God تشفعintercede بنجدتيfor my rescue وخلاصيand my deliverance
لله تشفع بنجدتي وخلاصي
ياO معدنmine جودgenerosity وياand O خلاصةquintessence عدنانAdnan
يا معدن جود ويا خلاصة عدنان
Intercede before God for my rescue and deliverance,
Intercede for my help and salvation
O mine of generosity, O quintessence of Adnan.

أسبابmeans رضاكyour favor التيwhich ذخرتI stored up لضيقيfor my distress
أسباب رضاك التي ذخرت لضيقي

The means to your favor that I have stored up for my distress
The means to gaining your pleasure that I hoarded for my straitness
Are my love, my praise, and my kinship, together with faith.
Are my love, my praise, my lineage, and my faith

يا رب أعني لكي أكافي فضلا
منهfrom him ليto me دوماًalways مدىthroughout الزمانtime بشكرانwith gratitude
منه لي دوماً مدى الزمان بشكران
O Lord, help me repay the kindness
O Lord, help me to repay everlasting
He has shown me, with gratitude always, throughout time.
With gratitude, the blessings he brought me
ياO ربLord أغثنيsuccor me بجاههby his standing وأجرنيand shelter me
يا رب أغثني بجاهه وأجرني
منfrom سخطكYour displeasure عنيconcerning me لكيso that أدومI may abide برضوانin favor
من سخطك عني لكي أدوم برضوان
O Lord, succor me through his standing, and shelter me
O Lord, forgive me by his status, and save me
From Your displeasure with me, so I may abide in Your favor.
From Your wrath, so I may live in constant approval
واسمحand grant بنجاتيfor my deliverance منfrom الغمومsorrows جميعاًall
واسمح بنجاتي من الغموم جميعاً
ياO خيرbest رحيمmerciful one فأنتfor You are ملجأrefuge ولهانone distraught with longing
يا خير رحيم فأنت ملجأ ولهان
And grant my deliverance from all sorrows,
And allow me salvation from all worries
O best of the merciful, for You are the refuge of one distraught with longing.
