ثريا تضيء بليل الدجى

فيهرب منها ظلام الحلك

A chandelier shines in the dark of night,

so pitch-black darkness flees from it.

كأن قناديلها انجمٌ

تحاكي مساء ثريا الفلك

Its lamps are like stars,

mirroring at evening the Pleiades of the firmament.

ورب مليك تهادت له

كريم جليل شبيه الملك

And it glided to a certain king,

generous, august, like an angel.

فنال باهدائها ربها

مناه وقال العلا دام لك

Thus, by gifting it, its owner attained

his wish, and said, 'May glory endure for you,

ودام بنوك بظل الرضا

لديك تزين بهم منزلك

and may your sons remain in the shade of favor,

beside you, as you adorn your home with them.'

وشامية شامها حاذق

فقال على الصنع ما اجملك

And a connoisseur beheld this Syrian chandelier,

then said of its craftsmanship, 'How beautiful you are!'
